Target Information

In eukaryotic cells, the nuclear envelope consists of inner and outer membranes that define the border between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The inner membrane is supported by the nuclear lamina, composed of lamins, which attach to the membrane via Lamin Associated Polypeptides (LAPs). LAP1A, 1B, and 1C share high sequence homology, while LAP2 is distinct and binds only lamin B1. LAP2 also binds to chromosomes, and its phosphorylation during mitosis inhibits this binding, indicating an important role in nuclear envelope reassembly.
