Target Information
INSR (Insulin Receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates the effects of insulin by stimulating glucose uptake. It shares structural and functional similarity with IGF-1 receptors. Upon insulin binding, INSR undergoes autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues, initiating downstream signaling. The human INSR gene is located on chromosome 19, and defects in this gene are associated with various insulin resistance syndromes. IGF-1R defects may also contribute to certain growth retardation disorders.
