Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL-12 alpha) is a signaling cytokine belonging to the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. The IL-12A precursor is a 35 kDa subunit of the disulfide-linked heterodimeric cytokine IL-12, exhibiting diverse biological activities. IL-12A functions as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhancing NK/lymphokine-activated killer cell lytic activity. It stimulates IFN-gamma production by PBMCs and promotes differentiation of Th1 and Th2 cells. IL-12A also regulates tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat4 and is involved in innate immune signaling requiring nitric oxide synthase 2A. Together with EBI3, IL-12A forms interleukin-35 (IL-35), a heterodimeric cytokine produced by Treg cells essential for maximal suppressive activity.
