Target Information

MHC class II gene expression is primarily regulated at the transcriptional level by transcription factors binding to conserved X and Y boxes in the proximal promoter region.
NFX1 acts as a transcriptional repressor binding to the X box motif of HLA-DRA and other MHC class II genes in vitro.
It may regulate the duration of inflammatory responses by limiting the period during which class II MHC molecules are induced by IFN-gamma.
Three alternative splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
