Target Information
Relaxin 3 is part of the Relaxin-like peptide family that plays an important neuropeptide signaling role. It acts as a ligand for human Relaxin receptor 3 and Relaxin receptor 4.
The highest expression levels are found in the brain—particularly in the pons/medulla and dorsal tegmental nucleus—with lower levels in the hippocampus and olfactory regions.
Significant expression also occurs in the spleen, thymus, lung, and ovary. Relaxin 3 inhibits Forskolin-stimulated cAMP accumulation in cells expressing Relaxin receptor 3.
Administration of Relaxin 3 decreases plasma thyroid stimulating hormone levels, suggesting a role in long-term regulation of food intake.
