Phospho-p21 (Ser129) Polyclonal Antibody detects endogenous levels of p21 only when phosphorylated at Ser129.
Target Information
Protein p21 is a tumor suppressor protein that inhibits Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) and is transcriptionally activated by p53.
p21 plays a key role in the cellular response to genotoxic stress and is a major transcriptional target of p53.
In the nucleus, p21 binds and inhibits CDK1 and CDK2, blocking the transition from G1 to S phase or G2 to mitosis after DNA damage, allowing DNA repair.
In the cytoplasm, p21 exhibits anti-apoptotic effects by inhibiting caspase 3 and apoptotic kinases ASK1 and JNK.
p21 has dual roles in carcinogenesis, functioning as both a tumor suppressor and oncogene depending on cellular context.
