Target Information
Laminins are essential and abundant structural non-collagenous glycoproteins localizing to basement membranes. Basement membranes are cell-associated extracellular matrices composed of Laminins, Type IV Collagen, Nidogen, and proteoglycans. These structures are found under epithelial layers, around blood vessel endothelium, and surrounding muscle, nerve, and fat cells. Laminins influence cell proliferation, migration, gene expression, and tissue architecture. Each Laminin is a heterotrimer of alpha, beta, and gamma chains that assemble into the ECM, interacting with Integrins, dystroglycan, and Laminin receptors.
The human Laminin gamma-1 gene maps to chromosome 1q31 and is ubiquitously expressed in tissues producing basement membranes.
