Target Information
Aquaporin-8 is a protein encoded by the AQP8 gene in humans. Aquaporin 8 (AQP8) is a water channel protein and part of the aquaporin family, small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0).
Aquaporin 8 mRNA is found in pancreas and colon but not in other tissues. It forms a water-specific channel that is mercury-sensitive and not permeable to glycerol or urea. Expression is limited to pancreas and colon.
