Target Information
Sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase (SGPL1) cleaves phosphorylated sphingoid bases, such as sphingosine-1-phosphate, into fatty aldehydes and phosphoethanolamine. It elevates stress-induced ceramide production and apoptosis. The enzyme catalyzes the conversion of sphingosine-1-phosphate to phosphoethanolamine and palmitaldehyde using pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. SGPL1 is a type III membrane protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum and is primarily expressed in the liver and kidney. It belongs to the group II decarboxylase family.
