Target Information
The Drosophila gene for the ATP synthase epsilon subunit (ATP5E) is known as stunted or sun (Kidd et al., 2005).
Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis by utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation.
ATP synthase is composed of two linked multi-subunit complexes:
- F1 complex: Soluble catalytic core
- Fo complex: Membrane-spanning proton channel
The catalytic portion of mitochondrial ATP synthase consists of five different subunits (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon) assembled with a stoichiometry of 3 alpha, 3 beta, and one each of the other three.
The proton channel consists of three main subunits (a, b, c).
