Target Information
The HSP70 family is a group of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat shock, across many organisms.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible in all organisms; constitutively expressed in primate cells.
- HSP72: 72 kDa protein induced exclusively under stress conditions.
- HSC70 (HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73): Constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible; involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles and cytoskeletal rearrangements.
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum.
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein.
HSC70 binds to clathrin light chain loops to promote uncoating, interacts with the cytoskeleton, and plays roles in lysosomal degradation and mitochondrial protein folding.
