Target Information
MettL7B belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is a probable methyltransferase. Methyltransferases transfer a methyl group from a donor to an acceptor, often occurring on DNA bases or amino acids in proteins. DNA methylation regulates gene expression without altering the DNA sequence and is essential for normal embryonic growth in mammals. Mutations in DNA methyltransferase genes can cause lethal phenotypes in mice. Aberrant methylation of tumor suppressor genes is associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis.
