Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates ectodermal gene expression within the mesoderm and plays a role in mesoderm and neural crest formation.
SNAI1 is an important factor in tumor invasion, contributing to E-cadherin downregulation and induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
In human breast cancer, expression of SNAI1 and/or its homolog SNAI2 (Slug) is associated with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, tumor recurrence, and poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein in the stroma may also serve as a potential prognostic marker for colon tumors.
