Target Information
PEDF (Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor)는 신경영양, 항혈관신생, 항종양 특성을 가진 비억제성 세르핀(serpin)입니다. 약 50 kDa의 당단백질로, 인체 여러 조직에서 생성 및 분비됩니다. PEDF의 주요 기능은 증식 중인 내피세포의 세포사멸을 유도하여 혈관신생을 억제하는 것입니다. 또한 VEGF 및 FGF-2와 같은 혈관신생 인자의 활성을 억제합니다. 신경보호 효과는 과산화물, 글루타메이트 등으로 유도되는 신경세포 사멸을 억제함으로써 발현됩니다. PEDF는 고친화도의 수용체인 PEDF-R과 결합하여 신호를 전달하며, 이는 세르핀 계열 단백질 중 유일한 신호전달 수용체로 알려져 있습니다. 이러한 다양한 생물학적 활성을 통해 PEDF는 연령 관련 황반변성(AMD), 증식성 당뇨망막병증(PDR) 등 혈관 관련 신경퇴행성 질환 치료 연구에 활용될 수 있습니다. 또한 다양한 혈관신생 관련 질환 및 암 연구에도 잠재적 응용이 가능합니다.
