Target Information
This gene encodes four products of the tachykinin peptide hormone family: substance P, neurokinin A, neuropeptide K, and neuropeptide gamma. These hormones act as neurotransmitters interacting with nerve receptors and smooth muscle cells, inducing behavioral responses and functioning as vasodilators and secretagogues. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
