Target Information
Dual-specificity phosphatases (DUSPs) are a heterogeneous subgroup within the type I cysteine-based protein-tyrosine phosphatase superfamily. They dephosphorylate both tyrosine and serine/threonine residues.
DUSP16, also known as MAP kinase phosphatase (MKP), specifically dephosphorylates MAPK proteins including ERK, JNK, and p38, with distinct substrate specificity. MKPs contain a conserved C-terminal catalytic domain and an N-terminal Cdc25-like domain. MAPK activation cascades regulate key physiological processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and stress responses.
