Target Information
The IRF (interferon regulatory factor) family of transcription factors are characterized by a unique tryptophan pentad repeat DNA-binding domain. The IRFs play a critical role in regulating interferon responses to viral infection and in controlling interferon-inducible gene expression.
IRF4 is lymphocyte-specific and acts as a negative regulator of toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, which is central to both innate and adaptive immune activation.
A chromosomal translocation involving this gene and the IgH locus, t(6;14)(p25;q32), is associated with multiple myeloma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
