Target Information
C/EBP alpha regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It uses a bipartite structural motif to bind DNA, forming dimers through amphipathic alpha helices (leucine zipper). Basic polypeptide regions create DNA contact surfaces. C/EBP alpha functions in terminally-differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Family members include C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon, all sharing similar DNA-binding properties. C/EBP beta and delta can form heterodimers with each other and with C/EBP alpha.
