Product Specific Information
This antibody is predicted to react with non-human primate based on sequence homology.
Target Information
Calpain is an intracellular calcium-dependent protease involved in cleavage of cytoskeletal and submembranous proteins, contributing to cytoskeletal reorganization and muscle protein degradation. It is a heterodimer composed of a small regulatory subunit and one of three large catalytic subunits: calpain 1, calpain 2, and calpain 3.
Calpain 3 (also known as calpain p94) is a muscle-preferred, calcium-activated neutral protease that localizes to the nucleus. Mutations in the calpain 3 gene are associated with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2A, an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder. Calpastatin regulates calpain activity by inhibiting both its proteolytic function and membrane binding. Two types of calpastatin exist—tissue type and erythrocyte type—arising from alternative splicing and proteolytic processing.
