Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, members of the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These receptors are heteromeric protein complexes forming ligand-gated ion channels. The subunits are essential for synaptic plasticity, which underlies learning and memory. Expression of isoforms may vary by cell type, contributing to functional diversity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.
