Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed on T helper cells but may also be found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is expressed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 functions in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
