Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme present within the matrix of all peroxisomes.
It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.
Human catalase contains the C-terminal sequence (-KANL) responsible for peroxisome targeting.
The monomer has a molecular mass of approximately 61.3 kDa.
Catalase plays important roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor progression.
Deficiency of catalase leads to acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
