Target Information
The IL-21 receptor (IL-21R) is a cytokine receptor belonging to the type I cytokine receptor family. It forms a heterodimeric complex with the common gamma-chain, which is shared by receptors for IL-2 and IL-5. IL-21R mediates IL-21–induced signaling that promotes proliferation and differentiation of T cells, B cells, and NK cells. Ligand binding activates downstream molecules including JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Mouse knockout studies indicate a role in immunoglobulin regulation. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported.
