MBL은 항체 비의존적 기전으로 침입 미생물을 직접 중화할 수 있는 면역 반응의 핵심 구성 요소입니다. 인간 MBL의 돌연변이는 보체 고정의 개시 능력 감소로 인한 면역결핍과 관련이 있습니다.
인간에서 MBL 관련 세린 프로테아제에는 MASP-1, MASP-2, MASP-3 및 MASP-2의 절단형(sMAP 또는 MAp19)이 있으며, 이들은 MBL과 복합체를 형성하여 렉틴 경로를 활성화합니다. MASP-3는 MASP-1 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱 산물로, heavy/A 사슬은 동일하나 light/B 사슬은 다릅니다. 활성화된 MASP는 이후 보체 경로의 하위 구성 요소를 절단 및 활성화합니다.
