Thermo Fisher Scientific Ion 16S™ Metagenomics Kit

The Ion 16S™ Metagenomics Kit is designed for rapid, comprehensive, and broad-range analyses of mixed microbial populations using the Ion Torrent™ semiconductor sequencing workflow.
This kit enables PCR amplification of hypervariable regions of the 16S rDNA gene from bacteria. The amplified fragments can then be sequenced using the Ion PGM™ Sequencing 400 Kit on the Ion PGM™ platform and analyzed via the Ion 16S™ metagenomics analysis module within Ion Reporter™ software.

Comprehensive

• Includes two sets of primers for amplifying hypervariable regions of the 16S rDNA gene:
  • Primer set V2-4-8
  • Primer set V3-6,7-9
• Allows accurate detection and identification of a broad range of bacteria down to genus or species level.
• Uses Environmental Master Mix v2.0, optimized for high PCR inhibitor tolerance and amplification from complex samples (environmental, food, tissue, etc.).
• Includes a positive control for troubleshooting experiments.

Flexible

• Primer sets are provided as two pools, usable individually or in combination for flexible experimental setups.
• Compatible with Ion Xpress™ Barcode Adapters kits for multiplexing multiple polymicrobial samples in a single sequencing workflow.

Complete Workflow

• Sequences generated with the kit can be directly analyzed using the Ion 16S™ metagenomics analysis module in Ion Reporter™ software, enabling rapid and semi-quantitative assessment of complex microbial samples.

This kit is not compatible with the Ion Library Quantitation Kit (Cat. No. 4468802).
For accurate quantitation of amplicons generated using this kit, use the Ion Universal Library Quantitation Kit (Cat. No. A26217).
