IFITM2는 인터페론 유도 항바이러스 단백질로, 바이러스가 숙주 세포의 세포질로 진입하는 것을 억제합니다. 이는 바이러스의 융합과 세포 내 내용물 방출을 방지하며, 인플루엔자 A 바이러스, SARS-CoV, Marburg 바이러스, Ebola 바이러스, Dengue 바이러스, West Nile 바이러스, HIV-1, VSV 등 다양한 바이러스에 대해 활성을 나타냅니다.
또한, 세포 주기 정지 및 p53 비의존적 카스파아제 활성화를 통한 세포자멸사를 유도합니다.
