Target Information
VE-cadherin is a member of the cadherin superfamily located in a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16, implicated in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer.
It is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
VE-cadherin functions as a classic cadherin, mediating homophilic cell adhesion and playing a crucial role in endothelial cell biology by regulating intercellular junction cohesion and organization.
An alternative splice variant has been described, though the full-length sequence has not been determined.
