Target Information
Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. The protein encoded by this gene is an S-type lectin. It is overexpressed in Hodgkin’s disease tissue and may contribute to interactions between H and RS cells and their surrounding cells, potentially playing a role in disease pathogenesis and immunodeficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist for this gene.
