Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cofactor required by pancreatic lipase for efficient dietary lipid hydrolysis. It binds to the C-terminal, non-catalytic domain of lipase, stabilizing the active conformation and increasing the hydrophobic binding site. This cofactor enables lipase to anchor noncovalently to lipid micelles, counteracting bile salt interference. It is expressed specifically in pancreatic acinar cells, suggesting tissue-specific regulation. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
