Target Information
All cells within tissues are surrounded by an extracellular matrix (ECM) that provides structural support and mediates cell communication. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are Zn²⁺-binding endopeptidases involved in ECM remodeling, wound healing, angiogenesis, and tumor invasion. MMP activity is regulated by tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), which can suppress tumor cell invasion and act as metastasis suppressor genes.
