Product Specific Information

MA5-15877 targets SMAD2 in FACS, IF, IHC, and WB applications and shows reactivity with Human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of human SMAD2 expressed in E. coli.
MA5-15877 detects SMAD2 with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 52 kDa.

Target Information

SMAD2 (MADH2, MAD2) regulates multiple cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation.
It interacts with TGF-beta receptors through the SMAD anchor for receptor activation, a central event in TGF-beta signaling.
Phosphorylation of threonine 8 in the calmodulin-binding region of the MH1 domain by ERK1 enhances SMAD2 transcriptional activity, which is negatively regulated by calmodulin.
Upon TGF-beta signaling, SMAD2 is phosphorylated by TGF-beta receptors, leading to dissociation from SARA and association with SMAD4, enabling nuclear translocation and transcriptional repression.
SMAD2 can also be phosphorylated by activin type 1 receptor kinase, mediating activin signaling.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding SMAD2 have been observed.
