Product Specific Information

This CMSSB monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD56 (Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule, NCAM). CD56 is a highly glycosylated transmembrane molecule expressed by neurons and involved in neural cell adhesion. In the hematopoietic system, CD56 is expressed on NK and NKT cells. Staining with CMSSB does not block binding of MEM188 or CB56.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis and immunohistology staining of paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
Applications Tested: Tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended ≤0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Titrate for optimal assay performance.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

CD56 (NCAM) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family, expressed widely in the nervous system (isoforms 120–180 kDa). It mediates cell adhesion, migration, axonal growth, and synaptic plasticity. Polysialic modification reduces adhesion. CD56 interacts with extracellular matrix components such as laminin and integrins and is expressed in neuroectodermal-derived cell lines, tissues, and tumors (e.g., retinoblastoma, medulloblastoma, astrocytoma, neuroblastoma). It serves as a sensitive neuroendocrine marker for neuroendocrine and ovarian granulosa cell tumors. CD56 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as rabies and blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms.
