Target Information
ACCN3 encodes a member of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily. Members of this family are amiloride-sensitive sodium channels with intracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop containing many cysteine residues with conserved spacing.
ACCN3 functions as an acid sensor and may play an important role in detecting lasting pH changes. It can also form heteromeric associations with ACCN1, producing proton-gated channels sensitive to gadolinium.
