STAT3 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3)는 STAT 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 수용체 관련 키나아제에 의해 인산화되어 핵으로 이동 후 전사인자로 작용합니다.
STAT3는 Interferon-alpha, Interferon-gamma, EGF, PDGF, IL6 등에 의해 활성화됩니다.
Tyrosine 705에서의 인산화는 STAT3 다이머 형성, 핵 이동 및 DNA 결합 활성에 필수적입니다.
STAT3 유전자는 인간 염색체 17의 q arm에 위치합니다.
STAT3는 세포 성장, 생존, 아폽토시스 등 다양한 세포 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하며, Rac1 및 PIAS3 단백질에 의해 조절됩니다.
세 가지 대체 스플라이싱된 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있으며, STAT3 유전자 결실 마우스는 배아 초기 단계에서 치명적입니다.
