Target Information

Adipose tissue plays a major role in regulating physiological and pathological processes such as metabolism and immunity by producing and secreting various bioactive molecules called adipokines.
The adiponectin/ACRP30 family and its structural and functional paralogs, the C1q/tumor necrosis factor-alpha-related proteins (CTRPs) 1–7, are highly conserved adipokines.
Unlike adiponectin, which is expressed exclusively by differentiated adipocytes, CTRPs are expressed in a wide range of tissues and act mainly on liver and muscle to control glucose and lipid metabolism.
Structural analysis of adiponectin revealed an evolutionary link between TNF and C1q-containing proteins, suggesting a common ancestral innate immunity gene.
In obese (ob/ob) mice, RT-PCR analysis showed that mCTRP1 transcripts are significantly elevated in adipose tissue compared to normal mice.
