Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns are characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage. Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
