Target Information
Thymus development depends on complex interactions between thymocytes and stromal components. Epithelial V-like antigen (EVA) is expressed in thymic epithelium and is downregulated during thymocyte maturation. This gene is expressed in the thymus and several epithelial structures early in embryogenesis. It is homologous to myelin protein zero and associates with the cytoskeleton, suggesting a role in cell adhesion through homophilic interaction. EVA may participate in early thymus organogenesis and contains a V-type domain, two N-glycosylation sites, and a serine phosphorylation site for casein kinase 2. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
