Target Information
Heterochromatin protein-1 (HP1) is a methyl-lysine binding protein localized at heterochromatin sites, where it mediates gene silencing. It interacts with methylated histone H3 on lysine-9 through its chromodomain, acting as an adaptor molecule in gene silencing and chromatin structure regulation. HP1 association with heterochromatin is dependent on SUV39H1 HMTase activity.
