Target Information
WFS1 (Wolframin) is a novel component of Wolfram syndrome, a rare juvenile diabetes form. It plays a key role in maintaining endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis in the pancreas. WFS1 expression is upregulated during insulin secretion, whereas its inactivation induces ER stress. Chronic ER stress is implicated in Wolfram syndrome.
