Target Information
Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that can mediate lysis of certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells without previous activation. They also regulate humoral and cell-mediated immunity.
The NKG2A protein belongs to the killer cell lectin-like receptor (NKG2) family, which are transmembrane proteins expressed in NK cells. These proteins have a type II membrane orientation and a C-type lectin domain.
NKG2A forms a complex with KLRD1/CD94 and is involved in recognition of MHC class I HLA-E molecules in NK cells.
Genes of the NKG2 family form a receptor gene cluster on chromosome 12, with four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two isoforms observed.
