Target Information
Glutathione S-transferase M3 (brain), also known as GSTM3, is an enzyme encoded by the GSTM3 gene in humans. It belongs to the mu class of glutathione S-transferases, which play a role in detoxifying electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins, and oxidative stress products by conjugation with glutathione.
The mu class genes are located on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic, influencing individual susceptibility to toxins and drug response. Mutations in these genes have been associated with a slight increase in cancer risk due to environmental exposure.
