The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

The PLUNC family of proteins are encoded by genes located on chromosome 20 and are believed to play a role in the innate immune response in the mouth, nose, and lungs.
As a member of this family, BASE (breast cancer and salivary gland-expressed protein) is a 179 amino acid secreted protein named for its expression pattern.
Due to its 63% sequence similarity with Latherin, BASE is suggested to be the major protein in sweat secretions and possesses surfactant properties that lower surface tension.
Its expression in various breast cancer cell lines suggests potential as a diagnostic marker. Because the gene encoding BASE is highly estrogen-repressed, expression is likely dependent on HNF-3alpha and estrogen-mediated repression via ERalpha.
