Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the translation repressor protein family. The protein interacts directly with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a key component in recruiting 40S ribosomal subunits to the 5' end of mRNAs. Binding of this protein to eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. Upon phosphorylation in response to stimuli such as UV irradiation or insulin signaling, the protein dissociates from eIF4E, leading to activation of mRNA translation.
