Target Information
La protein (SSB) participates in multiple aspects of RNA metabolism:
- Binds and protects 3′ UUU(OH) elements of newly RNA polymerase III-transcribed RNA
- Processes 5′ and 3′ ends of pre-tRNA precursors
- Acts as an RNA chaperone
- Binds viral RNAs associated with hepatitis C virus
Originally identified by its reactivity with autoantibodies from patients with Sjögren syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus.
