Target Information

Cell surface protein involved in host-parasite interaction during Candida albicans infection. Along with MP65, it is a major component of the biofilm matrix. PRA1 sequesters zinc from host tissue and mediates leukocyte adhesion and migration.
As a surface protein, it binds human complement regulators CFH and CFHR1, and plasminogen (PLG), contributing to complement evasion and extracellular matrix interaction/degradation.
As a released protein, it enhances complement control near the yeast, forming a protective layer that assists the fungus in escaping host immune surveillance.
PRA1 binds to host C3, blocking its cleavage into C3a and C3b, inhibiting complement activation. It also mediates complement evasion through binding to C4BPA and integrin αM/β2, reducing complement-mediated adhesion and macrophage uptake of C. albicans.
