Target Information
The calcium binding protein (CaBP) family shares significant similarity with calmodulin. CaBP proteins can substitute for and augment calmodulin function. These proteins are essential for calcium-mediated cellular signal transduction in the central nervous system. CaBP1 and CaBP2 are expressed as multiple, alternatively spliced variants in brain and retina, whereas CaBP3, CaBP4, and CaBP5 are restricted to retinal rod and cone cells.
