This antibody recognizes recombinant and native 16 kDa leptin from mouse and human. Reactivity with leptin from other sources is unknown.

Target Information

Leptin is a 167-amino-acid protein hormone (~16 kDa) encoded by the ob gene. It plays a key role in regulating body weight, metabolism, and reproductive function. Leptin is mainly secreted by adipocytes, with smaller amounts from stomach epithelium and placenta.

Leptin receptors are highly expressed in hypothalamic regions controlling feeding behavior, body temperature, and energy expenditure, as well as in T lymphocytes and endothelial cells.

Leptin influences food intake, energy expenditure, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis, wound healing, inflammation, immune responses, pubertal development, and fetal growth. It has been studied in relation to obesity, anorexia nervosa, insulin resistance, and hypertension, and also regulates fatty acid oxidation enzymes.
