This 815CU17 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD68, a 110 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the sialomucin family, closely related to lysosomal-associated membrane proteins (LAMP) and scavenger receptors. CD68 is mainly found in the late endosomal compartment, and to a lesser extent on the surface of myeloid-derived cells such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, basophils, mast cells, and CD34+ progenitor cells.

The antibody does not cross-react with mouse or rat CD68.
For flow cytometric analysis of human CD68, clone eBioY1/82A is recommended.

Applications Reported: Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, and microscopy.
Applications Tested: IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue using low or high pH antigen retrieval; recommended ≤10 µg/mL. Optimize dilution for best results.

Target Information

CD68 (Macrosialin) is a 110 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein expressed mainly in lysosomes of monocytes and macrophages, and to a lesser extent in dendritic cells and granulocytes. It may play a role in phagocytosis and lysosomal metabolism, as well as cell-cell and cell-pathogen interactions. CD68 is expressed in interdigitating reticulum cells, histiocytic lymphoma, histiocytosis, AML, and granulocytic sarcoma. Elevated CD68 expression has been observed on CD34+ cells in several human malignancies, including AML.
