mCherry is a fluorophore (fluorescent molecule) used in biotechnology as a tracer to follow fluid flow and as a marker when tagged to molecules or cell components.
It is a monomeric fluorescent construct that absorbs at 587 nm and emits at 610 nm.
mCherry is resistant to photobleaching, stable, and matures quickly (t₀.₅ ≈ 15 minutes), allowing visualization soon after translation.
