Target Information
Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. CD11b mediates adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes, and functions as CR3, the receptor for iC3b. It also binds fibrinogen, factor X, and ICAM1. CD11b is present on macrophages, granulocytes, NK cells, and monocytes, and serves as a microglial marker in nervous tissue. CD11c encodes the integrin alpha X chain, forming a leukocyte-specific integrin (CR4) with beta 2 chain. This complex participates in neutrophil and monocyte adhesion and phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. Mutations in CD11b/c are associated with systemic lupus erythematosus 6.
